What We’ve Learned About Feline Stomatitis

What Is Stomatitis Anyway?

Stomatitis is an awful and mysterious inflammatory disorder of the mouth that causes excessive swelling of the mouth, gums, and throat, excessive drooling, matted fur, severe pain, and finally, complete loss of appetite that brings them to the rainbow bridge forever.

Scrappy

Here is an example of Scrappy when we first got to the house. A full grown adult cat severely underweight as an affect of stomatitis.

Diagnosing and treating stomatitis has been a multi-stage event as far as we have experienced. The final treatment involves extracting some or all of the cat’s teeth, a procedure that can be life-saving.
